Hi everyone! My name is Tracy Smith, and this is my 16th year of teaching, my fifth year in Alaska. I started teaching middle school in Texas and then moved to intervention at SoEl four years ago. I graduated from Texas A&M University with my bachelor's degree and then as an Honor Graduate at American College of Education with my Master's of Education in Educational Leadership. I have been married for 22 years to my husband, Barron. We have one fur baby named Willow. We are in love with all that Alaska has to offer from hiking, biking, skiing, kayaking, snowshoeing, fishing, etc.
PL Strategy to share:
I have learned to consistently use data to measure progress and provide personalized support to students, especially pre-assessments to determine who needs intervention and/or enrichment. I also use data to help students with relfection on personal goals. I am wanting to focus this year on expanding student agency in choosing their own format for assignments and projects and incorporating more SEL-focused practices to build a more supportive classroom environment.
Current Driving Question:
If we end up needing to go fully remote again, one of my biggest concerns is providing enriched learning options for students without access to technology.
