I was born and raised near Madison Wisconsin. I went to Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where I majored in Secondary Education and English Language Arts. I taught 6th grade for two years at Prince of Peace School, a low-income private school on the near South Side before moving up to Alaska in 2019. My first year at Skyview I was a reading intervention teacher, but transitioned to language arts beginning last year. In addition to teaching I enjoy working with students in extracurricular activities, including soccer, volleyball, and student council. In my spare time I enjoy reading, watching sitcoms and old films, hiking, camping, and spending time with my husband and dog.
PL Strategy to share:
I primarily use PL in order to scaffold learning to student ability. Last year we had our classes sorted by ability level, so my instruction varied from class to class. I have also done extensive goal setting, especially as an intervention teacher. My students would set weekly goals and reflect from week to week. I helped them make S.M.A.R.T. goals to ensure student success in goal-setting.
Current Driving Question:
How can we maximize learning while also leaving time for social and emotional development?
