Elementary Strategies for
Highly Customizable Content

Flexible Content and Tools Icon
Resources
  • Individualized Playlists - Students work through an playlist or work plan of activities at their own or a set pace (Playlist 101, Example #1; Example #2, Example #3)
  • Gamification - Set up content in the form of a game, in which students can earn points, level up, and track progress (Tips; Example; see a school built around gamification)
  • Culturally Responsive Content - consider how a variety of tools can lead to more culturally responsive learning activities for students (article)
  • Use an LMS or Class Website to Host Content - Use a platform like Google Classroom or a class website to house materials that can be accessed anytime, anywhere.
  • Digital Direct Instruction - Record or curate video-based direct instruction that can be delivered away from class (Traditional Flipped, In-Class Flip). Have students receive direct-instruction from a teacher-built or curated video or resource that would otherwise be delivered in full-group format. (Example #1; Example #2)
  • Montessori Methods - Consider how you might provide self-paced, modular lessons to your students similar to those based on a Montessori model (article)
